I much prefer investing in public markets for the reasons you mentioned: liquidity, lower risk, more disclosure, less hype. The businesses have audited financials, solid revenue, brands, and customer bases.
The secondary market can be an interesting hobby, like buying lottery tickets, but I wouldn't recommend it as a career.
